Another Management Shake-Up At Zynga: Chief Marketing And Revenue Officer Jeff Karp Departs

Zynga just announced another big change in its management team: The departure of Chief Marketing Officer And Revenue Officer Jeff Karp, who joined a little more than a year ago . Karp was previously executive vice president at EA, and he appeared to follow another EA executive, John Schappert, who joined Zynga as COO in April 2011. Schappert himself left Zynga last month  shortly after a reorganization during which he lost oversight of the company’s game development.

When Karp joined Zynga last year, the company said he would be responsible (as you might expect given his title) for marketing, driving revenue, and international sales. It sounds like teams that were formerly under him have been reassigned to other divisions. These shake-ups come after Zynga released disappointing earnings numbers for its second quarter. Here’s the company’s statement: Jeff Karp is leaving Zynga, and the groups in his organization have been realigned under appropriate existing divisions. Our marketing and revenue teams have always been industry leaders, and as we continue our transition toward mobile and multiplatform game creation and distribution, their continued execution will be key to our future success. We are grateful to Jeff for his contributions over the last year and wish him well in his future endeavors.
