Headsets like the Oculus Rift + Touch and HTC Vive blind and deafen you to the real world in favor of a digital land where you can use your own body to look around and interact with objects. When they debuted in 2016, the Rift (with Touch controllers) and Vive cost $700 to $800 each, on top of the cost of a new PC, which was often needed to run the VR headsets. The price of admission has slowly dropped, and you can now buy one for the same price as a new gaming console. The Oculus Rift + Touch controllers were permanently discounted to $399 last week, putting them at a far more attractive price for the holidays.
